City of Liverpool Spitfires

Two Spitfires named City of Livepool (Mk Va R7029) and City of Liverpool III (Mk Va R7208) served with 611 Sqn both joining as part of re-equipment of newer Marks of aircraft on 13 May 1941 whilst the Squadron was at Hornchurch in Essex.

Brian Thomas of Wavertree, Liverpool is seeking information about their code letters. Having consulted the RAF Form 540 and Ray Sturtivant and Henry Boot's book 'Gifts of War' there are no clues. The only photo found so far is from the Liverpol Echo dated 16 May 1941 but there was no code letter applied at that date.
